16 Months & 1 Week
Friday was D-day. Heath was headed to China for a week and Ty and I would be on our own. I kept saying to Ty, “It’s you and me against the world.” He would flash me his million dollar smile and I knew we would be fine. Seriously, I’m going to try to keep the blog short, since I gave Heath my camera to take to China, so I have no pictures for the week. It is so hard to read a wicked long post if there aren’t any pictures to keep you interested. Well, I left out a couple pictures from last week, knowing that I wouldn’t have any, so there are a few. Amazingly, Heath was able to fly out on that Friday, despite the snow and freezing rain. He got delayed about 30 minutes, but he was thankful it wasn’t cancelled. Ty and I were going to go to my parent’s house for supper, but because of the weather, we stayed home. I’ll definitely say that I really missed Heath during the evening routine. He will always give Ty his bath, while I’m finishing eating (since I feed Ty first). So with me doing everything, I usually didn’t eat until Ty was down for the count…around 9 pm. Just made for later nights.
On Sabbath, we went over to my parent’s house for “virtual church.” The Walls were originally supposed to be there, but they got stuck in Newark trying to get home from Texas… and got rerouted finally to Burlington, VT very late Friday night. My dad was on-call and was doing a case when we got there. He got back and we ate lunch and then had a visit from the Neil’s. Then Ty, Mom, and I started the trek down to the Cape. One thing I have to say is that the first thing we have to do when we start a trip anywhere with Tyson is… take off his shoes and his socks! Even in the middle of winter! For some reason, he gets completely obsessed with taking off his shoes and socks and will not rest until they are off. Sometimes he has trouble doing this and he has major melt-downs because of it. So if he starts off barefooted, he is happy from the get-go and goes right to sleep. He did sleep almost the whole way, so that was great! It was so great to get down there, it has been way too long (as it was mentioned a few times while we were there)! We went right to Kelly & Steve’s house and Uncle Charlie, Aunt Lori, and Rad came over for a bit (Jen was out of town visiting her brother). Unfortunately, Ty was scared to death of Kelly & Steve’s two beagles. They are so sweet, but he would cry hysterically whenever he saw them. Besides our dogs, he really isn’t around too many dogs, so hopefully this doesn’t last forever. Anyways, we had a nice visit and went to bed. Tyson went right to bed with Mom and I, since I felt bad that my regular pack n’ play was at the Edwards and all I had was the tiny infant pack n’ play. He thrashes and moves around so much that I knew it really wouldn’t work.
Definitely something I want to tell Tyson!
Sunday was a busy day. We got up and Kelly fed us breakfast and then we hit an estate sale! I was sad to come down in the winter, knowing that we wouldn’t be going to any yard sales… but I was pleasantly surprised that we made it to one! I didn’t actually get anything, but I love going regardless. Tyson definitely had fun bee-bopping around. We ran into Dania (our cousin) there and she took us over to see her son, Seth’s new townhouse that he had redone. It is absolutely gorgeous – so modern, like out of a magazine. Then we went and visited Aunt Betsy and John and Holly (more cousins), and they had another dog that Ty still wasn’t so sure of… but at least there wasn’t any sobbing. Then we went to lunch with all the Cases/Conrads. Tyson was very well behaved, but that all changed when we headed over to Goodwill. He turned into a monster. I mean, it happens sometimes in stores, but he really was pretty loud. So that was embarrassing. Let’s see… after that we went to the Christmas Tree Shop, where I bought 2 hampers, finally! I’ve been looking for some for so long! After that, we went over to see Jeff & Dania’s new house - which is just beautiful. Finally, after that long, long day… we went back to Kelly & Steve’s. We watched the Amazing Race, Jen came over for a quick visit (after she came in from the airport) and then we went to bed exhausted. I did put Ty in the tiny pack n’ play, while Mom and I watched the Oscars and he went right out. He did end up in bed with us in the middle of the night (along with the dogs)… so we had a full crew!
On Monday, we packed up and Ty was showing signs of improvement with the beagles, thank goodness. We made a quick visit to a friend of Mom’s, went to Jordan’s Furniture, and Ikea. Tyson did very well and took a long nap in the car. We got home and then turned around and went out to eat with my father. We tried a new Italian restaurant that just opened up in Belmont called “Pasta Patio” and it was phenomenal. Very impressed. Tyson ate like a champ again! On Monday night late, Shannon & Sean & Fin came over to spend the night… since Sean’s father and his wife were visiting and they were going to stay in their 1 bedroom apartment. Not a lot of space there. I was happy for the company.
On Tuesday, we puttered around the house and did laundry. The highlights I remember was Tyson climbing all the way into the cabinet that is underneath the washer and dryer. We were sorting laundry together and next thing I know, I didn’t know where he was! He went inside the cabinet and shut the door! What a rascal. Another rascal thing he did was fed Playdo to Reeses! It was pretty cute and she is fine! Tuesday afternoon we got bad news that Paul’s cancer is terminal. A brain cancer specialist at Dartmouth did not recommend doing any chemo or radiation – said there was nothing that he could do. A lot of Heath’s family was headed up there… so Ty and I went up too… to be supportive in Heath’s absence. It was definitely hard for Heath not to be there during all of this. Ty brought a bit of smiles to the family, but it is a very hard time. Norma (Heath’s grandmother) made the decision to just make him as comfortable as he can. They gave him a timeframe of about 2-3 months, unless some complication comes up. Keep the family in your prayers.
Couldn't that face cheer you up?
On Wednesday, Ty and Noni had their day together. Tyson did one of the funniest things to Noni that he has ever done. He grabbed her cell phone and put it in the diaper genie!!!! It has this handle that opens the genie, and you throw the diaper in, and then you push the handle up and it drops the diaper in and closes the genie. Well, Tyson thinks that this is awesome! I’ve been having a hard time lately keeping him away from it. I keep saying, “It’s dirty. No.” But I think that makes him like it more! So she lost it for about 3 hours and then Shannon came over and called the phone (I don’t have a home phone anymore) and they found it. Mom said smelled for a couple of days!!!! Noni spent Wednesday night with us, since we were getting about 8-10 inches of snow and she had to baby-sit Finley the next morning and be there by 6:30 AM.
He loves his Noni!
On Thursday, Ty and I stayed home all day since we were buried with snow. Noni and Finley came over for awhile in the afternoon and Poppy came by for a quick visit too. Something to note is that, much to my chagrin, Tyson has discovered the joys of the movie bookcase that sits behind his trampoline! He must have pulled off 25 movies and put them behind and underneath the couch! Great times. But what is more exciting is that Ty definitely knows where his nose, belly, and feet are. He always plugs his nose and makes a nose-blowing sound when I ask him where his nose is! (I think because I get so many allergy attacks) And he points to his belly when I ask him about his belly. He only looks at his feet when I ask him, but he definitely is looking in the right place! What a good boy! I am so proud!
Have a great week!
