Dog Food, Lady Bugs & Bode is Born!

Week 51

Last Friday was pajama day for Ty and I.  We stayed in our pj's for the whole day and it was great.  Ty's fever finally hit the road and he was feeling more like himself - but still not eating well at all.  At least he was drinking but still wouldn't touch the Pedialyte with a ten-foot pole.  Well, there is one thing that he felt like eating.  I was in the kitchen, doing what else but loading the dishwasher - when I realized Ty was quiet in the family room.  That is always a bad sign.  I checked on him and he was sitting by the dog food drooling.  I knew right away - he had dog food in his mouth.  First time he has ever done that.  I was able to get it out of his mouth before he swallowed it or choked on it.  That was a close one!  Friday afternoon was a bummer because I dropped our baby monitor on our hardwood floor and it immediately stopped working and wouldn't turn on.  I checked the batteries because I thought that one popped out, but it didn't.  I still don't know what exactly is wrong but I got it working.. sort of.  But on Friday night it was not working and I always sleep with the monitor on my bedside table to hear if Ty makes a peep.  I woke up in the middle of the night with Ty in bed with us.  Another bad sign.  Heath sleeps through anything - if he heard Ty and I didn't... he was probably screaming for an hour.  I don't know how I didn't hear him - I must have been wicked tired.  I felt terrible.  He was happy as a clam to be in bed with us, though, of course.

Pajama Day!

Friday night with Daddy

On Saturday I worked and Ty and Daddy stayed home to make sure Ty was over his sickness.  They were supposed to go backpacking but Keith got bronchitis and Ty had his fever...so those plans went down the toilet.  But Ty and Dad had fun.  Heath made Ty a box out of his large, soft puzzle pieces with an open hole on one side and Ty started to put things in through the hole.  He is so smart!  Another highlight was that Ty took a 2 hour nap in the afternoon!  Of course it was in Daddy's arms in the recliner, but at least he got some good sleep!

This is what he put inside of the box!

On Sunday I worked again and Ty and Heath had a more productive day at home.  They were able to get some smaller projects done at home - gone are the days that Heath will say, "I couldn't do anything.  I had Tyson."  Thank goodness!  While at work on my lunch break, I ran to Rite Aid to make sure I could get the freebies before they sold out and I cleaned house.  I spent $13 cash and got $46 worth of items and got $30 of Rite Aid money back!  Everyone at work has been very interested in my couponing lately and they all wanted to see my loot when I got back.  They seemed pretty impressed and I gave a little mini-couponing lesson.  Let's see if I can get anyone else on the bandwagon!

Rare pic taken by Daddy - look at the tears - he wanted his bubba so bad!

On Monday Ty woke up coughing again, but the fever had stayed away all weekend.  But I called Shannon and we decided that we still couldn't get together because we didn't want the "Petri Dish" (Ty) to give Finley any germs.  We hadn't seen them in a full week!  But in the afternoon Ty and I went to the grocery store and ran into Sean, Shannon, & Finley anyway!  I felt like I hadn't seen them in forever!  On Monday night you wouldn't believe what happened.  Heath and Ty were hanging out in the family room and I went upstairs to get Ty's pj's and a bedtime story and ran downstairs to get Ty.  But then I noticed that the dogs needed to be fed, so I filled their bowls and came back into the family room to get Ty.  But I didn't see him anywhere.  I asked Heath, "Where's Ty?"  Heath got a confused, panicked look on his face and then I saw it.  The shadow in the entrance way.  Ty was half-way up the stairs!!!!  I am obsessive about closing the baby gate, but I had left it open because I was planning just to scoop up Ty and go upstairs, but had gotten distracted with the feeding the puppies.  That little bugger.

Awoke on Monday with a bit of bed head!

On Tuesday I woke up to a phone call that Leigh was in labor.  Yeah!  Thank goodness I had a car seat this time!  We packed up as fast as  we could and got up to Conway.  My mom, Shannon & I were in the room with Leigh & Devin through the labor (with her sisters and mom too and Mia at the very end).  Leigh was amazing.  But it was intense when we saw her for the first time in the thick of her labor.  The three of us started crying when we saw her.  But she was great and the labor went perfectly and the next thing you know, their baby boy was born at 3:53 PM!  But that was when the drama started.  The baby had some difficulty breathing and then Leigh started hemorrhaging.  It went from perfect to perfectly scary in a matter of moments.  They could get Leigh's bleeding stopped for a minute and then she would start up again.  They didn't understand why she wouldn't stop bleeding.  They hit her with 3 different medications and her bleeding just wouldn't stop.  But then it finally did - I believe due to all of our prayers.  They called the pediatrician in to check the baby and put him skin to skin with Leigh in the meantime - and that really did the trick.  His breathing got better - the pediatrician thought that he got some fluid in his lungs, but he is completely fine now!  He was nameless for the first day of his life, his parents just couldn't decide!  I know all about that!  We named Ty in the OR!  Speaking of Ty, he was in the waiting room when all of this was going on... going between Mia, Aunt Sherrie, and Poppy.  And I kept checking on him too!  One of the times I went to peek in on Ty - he was sitting on the couch playing catch with Mia & Aunt Sherrie with one of his balls.  Just as I walked in the door, Aunt Sherrie threw the ball and it hit Ty right in the face!  What a trouper.  He didn't even cry - just blinked about a hundred times!  Thank goodness the ball was made of nerf!  Aunt Sherrie said, "Of course this HAD to happen when his mother walks in the door!"  After the baby was born, I went back to Ty and had him take his nap in my arms in the waiting room.  Whenever you hold him, he always sleeps longer!  It was a nice 1 hour and 10 minute nap!  Man, my arms were tired!  We waited until Heath got there (after work) to see the happy, new family.  We had a quick visit, since they were exhausted (both Devin & Leigh had worked all night and then had been in labor all day).  Then we went out to Thai with my parents and Aunt Sherrie & Uncle Kevin.  Then we went back to my parents' to spend the night.  I had switched my shift from Wednesday to Thursday, so we could spend more time there.

On Wednesday, my mom, Ty and I went up to the hospital and visited Devin, Leigh & the baby for about an hour and a half.  When we got there, they had named him!!!!  His name is... Bode Henry Copsey!  He is the cutest thing - he's a little baldy - and he's got the cutest nose and mouth.  Ty squealed in delight when he saw him!  Of course.  Poor Ty - he had the worst diaper rash that he has ever had.  Actually it is his first diaper rash - he has had some slight redness before, but nothing like this.  I don't know what could have caused it, we change his diapers very regularly  - but the poor guy was so sore.  He acted like nothing was wrong at all, until I had to change his diaper...and then he was very uncomfortable.  I was so sad for him.  We headed home in the afternoon.  On Wednesday night I was making supper and Heath noticed that Ty seemed to be chewing something.  Well, it turns out that he was chewing on a lady bug.  Whether it went into his mouth dead or alive, we just don't know - we just know that it came out dead.  I told Heath, "I guess that means Ty is not going to be a vegetarian!"  What is really tells me is that I need to vacuum my floors!

He actually looks like he is smiling at 1 day old!

Look at how cute he is!

It kind of looks like Ty is trying to kick Bode in the head!

He has a son!

On Thursday I worked.  I tried to go to my dumpster after work, but they were having a late night meeting at the office building and there was a million cars there.  I decided to try the big high school a few miles down the road, because I really wanted to get some inserts!  But when I pulled into the parking lot, there were 2 cops sitting there!  I got out of there without getting pulled over, but that is just another dumpster that I will never go to again.  When I got home, I was welcomed through the door with crying from Tyson up in bed.  I got him to sleep in about 15-20 minutes but then he was up screaming again at midnight for another 30 minutes or so.  What that was about, I'm not really sure.  But I guess you just never know sometimes.  Oh, the joy of parenthood.  Have a great week!

He doesn't like being on the other side of the gate - it's like he is in jail!

Fair Again, Still a Bully, High Fever, & Stool Fall

Week 50

I can't even tell you how frustrated I am.  I wrote this entire blog on Saturday night after work and uploaded all the pictures, except a couple - when the entire blog deleted (I must have hit the backspace key) and the autosave immediately came on and saved my empty, deleted draft.  So everything was gone.  The blogs take me about 3 hours because I'm long-winded and I put so many pictures in.  I will admit that a few tears were shed over this.  So frustrating - so here goes round two.

Last Friday morning I overslept.  Ty was up crying from 1:30 AM to 3 AM - for no reason in particular it seems.  We were supposed to get up early to go the Fryeburg Fair with my parents, but I slept through the alarm.  4 hours of sleep is just not enough.  We got to the fair at about 12:00 and were there for about 5 hours.  I brought the stroller, which Ty loved, but he did have a little ants-in-the-pants moment, so we switched to the Baby Bjorn for awhile.  Heath always does the Bjorn, so I hadn't done it in awhile!  Ty certainly has grown!  My back didn't hurt too bad, but probably it would have if I had done it for hours straight.  The fair was the busiest I have ever seen, on a Friday no less - it was so crowded.  Ty was a real trouper and seemed to have a good time!  After the fair, we headed to my parents' house and had a birthday party of sorts for the October babies.  We didn't include Ty this year because his first birthday will be special - otherwise he will be in on the October action next year.  The October babies are my Dad, Leigh, and Mia.  Thank goodness Finley is a September baby - but only by 1 day!  There has already been talk about putting her in the mix as well! (=  We had a nice meal, cheesecake, and some presents.  The whole Copsey clan was there and it was a good time.  Ty went to sleep like a champ - probably all the fresh air!

Zoning out looking at the animals!

Ty desperately wanted to drink my soda!

Love this pic!

Look at how awake she is for Auntie Leigh!

And fell asleep in Uncle Heath's arms

On Sabbath we headed to church and Heath brought Ty into Sabbath school.  I think he started to feel left out that he doesn't get to see Ty in Sabbath school, so he insisted on taking him.  I told him we could both go, but he thought that was overkill.  So I let him have his time and I joined the "big kids" in the adult lesson.  It was actually a nice change in pace.  Heath came out of Sabbath school and said, "Ty is a bully."  No kidding.  It was good for him to see his aggressiveness firsthand and to know I am not exaggerating.  The bullying didn't stop at Sabbath school but continued in the afternoon.  The Conrads and Aunt Lori came for church, which was great.  Finley didn't make her debut appearance yet at church, so we rushed back home to see her.  Ty got a bit too interested in Finley again and we had to intervene.  THEN Camden and Acadia came with Shawn and Camille.  Ty went right to Camden (who is 2 1/2) and became very vocal and grabby and scared Camden.  Camden kept trying to move away, saying, "Mommy... Mommy..."  I don't blame him at all!  Then Acadia and Ty took turns beating on each other and Heath and I were thrilled.  We told Camille just to let Acadia go wild on him. Who gets excited when a kid beats on your kid?  But we really wanted Ty to be put in his place.  It worked! Ty got a bit scared of her - now you know how other kids feel around you, Ty!!  But then the violence turned into open-mouthed kisses! (=  It was really cute.  Ty doesn't even know how to give kisses, but he went right to town with Acadia!  Another great thing that happened in the afternoon was that Ty walked again!  He was standing with Devin and just took 4 steps over to Heath, like it was nothing.  But again, could not get him to repeat it the entire week!  On Saturday night, we had a family shower (put on by my aunts) for Leigh & Shannon.  We made Devin & Sean stay and open all the gifts too!  It was great fun, but Ty had a major melt-down during the shower and would not go to sleep for Heath.  So I had to bow out a bit early.  It took him almost 1.5 hours to go to sleep, probably from all the excitement.

On Sunday it was back to Fryeburg Fair with the whole entire family.  We got there right there when it opened at 9 AM and all met up for the pig scramble.  Ty loved watching the pigs, but it was a short show for us, since we were seated on one end of the building and all the action was on the opposite end.  So that was a bummer, but still a fun fair moment.  It was 80 degrees, not exactly your normal fair weather at all!  Ty did great in the stroller again and didn't need the bjorn at all.  Ty seemed to like looking at the animals, but they were nothing compared to the tractors!  Ty loved sitting on the tractors and cried when he had to come off!  We had a great family day and even Finley came out to enjoy the fair too - for a few hours!  At 5PM (after a full 8 hours) Ty and I went back to my parents' house with my mother, while Heath stayed and watched the truck pulls.  When we got back, it was like Ty was possessed.  It must have been because he had been cooped up all day in the stroller - but he was an animal!  In fact, he did not want to be restrained again in the high chair to eat his dinner and gave me quite the run for my money.  My mother took over feeding him because she said she couldn't watch me struggle anymore!  I didn't fight her - I'll tell you that!  This time he went right to sleep in about 5 minutes without so much as a whine.  We stayed over my parents again on Sunday night, because I knew Heath would be late watching the truck pulls and we were beat.

Right after I took this picture, Heath jumped on the back of that tractor while still holding onto Ty's stroller - the stroller twisted around, and went up on 2 wheels - almost tipping over!  Heath was almost murdered right there on the spot.

Wish the lighting was better - love this pic of the three of us

I got 2 others to join in my mug club! (you buy a mug for $8 and you get $1 refills of homemade soda for life) I've had my mug for 3 years already!

My dad got a hat at the fair with "Poppy" on it - and then we found a cow with the same name!

Driving the tractor!

He even knows how to shift!

On Monday Heath headed to work early and Ty and I hitched a ride back home with Shannon & Sean.  I was sandwiched in the back between 2 car seats while Shannon held the puppies on her lap in the front seat.  To say that we were packed in like sardines is an understatement!  But we fit!  I can understand why you upgrade to a mini-van when you have 2 kids!  Well, we made it home and was Ty ever overjoyed to be home!  This is the first time that I have noticed a real reaction from him when we got home.  He dumped all his toys out all over the ground and played with all of them - and crawled all over the house laughing the whole time!  In the afternoon we met Shannon & Finley at Rite Aid for their first solo trip to the store!  It was a success - except that Shannon told me Rite Aid and then she drove to Walgreens!  Mommy brain!  It is a real thing.  A nice treat was that Ty slept an hour and 30 minute nap in the afternoon out of nowhere.  Sweet.

Look how happy he is to be home!

On Tuesday, I cleaned off Ty's Exersaucer that had been outside for awhile and Ty went beserk.  It was like he was welcoming the toy home - like he had missed it!  It was so cute.  I decided to spike Ty's hair up on Tuesday just to prove to Heath that he desperately needs a haircut.  His hair looked ridiculous - but I'm still waiting for the haircut!  Ty continued the long naps on Tuesday and I wondered if he was starting a new phase.  For some weird reason, Ty would not hardly eat any supper on Tuesday night.  I thought that it was because the food was textured and I actually counted that he was taking 5 1/2 minutes between each bite of food.  I was losing my mind!

"Where have you been?  I missed you!"

Can we say "Something About Mary?"

The reasons for his appetitie and longer naps became abundantly clear when I got a call at work on Wednesday night that Ty had a fever of 103.7.  His cold from last week was almost completely better and I didn't think that the fever could be from teething - it was just too high.  My parents gave him Tylenol and then Heath ended up cuddling with him until I got home.  That wasn't the best idea, since that is a furnace on top of a furnace.  So when I got home at 11 PM, his fever was up to 104.0!  He has never had any fevers like this before.  So I brought him right to bed with us to sleep for the night, since I wanted to check on him frequently.  He felt on fire again at 0430 and I gave him more Tylenol.  And I thought that the fever was gone in the AM.

But it wasn't.  Ty and I slept until 10 AM - since Ty's sleep had been very restless.  Throughout the morning it was 100.4 and 98.8 and I thought we were home free!  But then he spiked up to 101.7 again.  So I bit the bullet and took him to the doctors.  Tyson constantly plays with his ears - all the time.  He even has a scab inside his right ear that is ALWAYS there because he always messes with his ears.  So how am I supposed to know if he has an infection or not?  Of course he had "textbook perfect" ears and they thought that he just had a virus.  Ty was never very cranky with this, but a bit clingy, sleeping more and not eating.  But he was acting so well that we decided to go to the mexican restaurant.  Before we left, we had a near catastrophe.  Heath had Ty sitting on our bar stool at our island, with Heath behind him, showing him a game on his phone.  I thought that it was a cute picture - grabbed my camera and was just about to get the shot when Ty disappeared!  He fell off of the bar stool!  He didn't fall all the way to the ground - but he fell down between the rungs and his arms got held up on the rungs - so he was kind of hanging there.  He was fine, but I nearly killed Heath again.  Heath must have said 100 times, "I don't know what happened.  I don't know how he fell."  Gee, I wonder - you weren't holding onto him!!!!  Anyways, at the restaurant, Ty still wouldn't eat his food but had a blast playing around  and grabbing at our chips.  I was worried about dehydration, so we stopped at Walmart on the way home and bought some Pedialyte.  It had a great fruit flavor and tasted like juice.  But Tyson would have no part of it at all.  I tried it in his bottle, in a regular cup and a sippy cup - and he wouldn't bite.  What kid doesn't like juice?  We'll see if this continues.

Trying to reach the chips...

Success!

Have a great week!

Loving his Daddy time!

Very intent looking at something!

He doesn't miss a thing - there was a bug right underneath his Jumperoo and he watched every move it made!

Love this - they were both waiting for Reeses to come in!
